Age 94, of Johnston, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021 peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of 67 years to the late Anthony J. Martone, Sr. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (Ceprano) Indeglia.
Anna enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She belonged to The Busy Hands sewing group, The Johnston Senior Center, The Knightsville Seniors, and the UCT. She was a communicant of Holy Cross Church.
Anna was famous for her eggplant parmigiana, which was requested every year at the annual family picnic. For many years, she and husband Anthony would make wandies for weddings, baptisms, communions, and confirmations of family and friends.
Anna enjoyed telling the story of how she and Anthony met when they were teens. Her first job was at Scialo Bakery on Atwells Avenue. He worked next door at the Army Navy Store. Being smitten with her, he would go to the bakery everyday and buy a sfogiatelli. The rest is history.
She is survived by her loving children, Beverly Ann Deware of Johnston, Deborah Ann Barrett of North Smithfield, and Anthony John Martone, Jr. and his wife Susan of Plainville, MA. Anna was the cherished grandmother of William Deware, Jessica Silva, Matthew Barrett, Holly Barrett, Stephanie McPhail, and Christina Martone, and the great-grandmother of six. She was the dear sister of Theresa Luth of Warwick, and the late Frank Indeglia, Jennie Pinelle, and Rosemarie Micheli.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the CNAs who helped not only take excellent medical care of Anna in her home, but gave her love and always showed her kindness and much patience. Our sincerest thank you to Karen, Natalie, Dora, Marisol, Belkys, and to granddaughter Jessica.
