ALFRED R. 'FREDDY' SPINA

of Johnston, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, May 7, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Evelyn (DePetrillo) Spina for 64 years. The devoted husband, father, and grandfather was 83 years old. Known to many as "Freddy," Alfred was the proprietor of Spina's Shoes, which operated in downtown Providence for 47 years. To those closest to him, Alfred will be remembered as a man who loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends, telling stories, making jokes, and talking about his life experiences.

Born in Providence, Alfred was a son of the late Lorenzo and Filomena (Serra) Spina. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. In addition to his wife Evelyn, he leaves two children, Kevin M. Spina and his wife Karen of Smithfield and Michelle A. Refino of Cranston. He also leaves three loving grandchildren; Christopher Spina, Matthew Spina and Felicia Refino; as well as one great-grandchild, Giuliana Shanley. He was the brother of Antonio Spina and Ann Lombardi of Warwick, Louis Spina of Providence, Rita Beaune of Cranston and the late Angelo Spina and Josephine Santopadre. His funeral will be held on Friday, May 11, at 9am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Holy Cross Church, Hartford Ave., Providence at 10am. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8pm. Interment will take place in St. Anns Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
