ALFRED L. "AL" "RIP" RAPOSA

May 30, 1925 - November 30, 2011 86, of Westhill Drive Cranston passed away peacefully November 30, 2011, at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Anna Y. (LaFazia) Raposa to whom he was married to for 60 years. Born on May 30, 1925 in Oakland, California, Al moved to Rhode Island with his parents at the age of 3 settling in the Fox Point area of Providence. He was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Costa) Raposa. During his young adult years, Al played soccer for the Portugese/American Sports Club of Fox Point. "Rip", as he was known by many, was a member of the Teamsters Local 251 for over 40 years. Following his retirement, he and his late wife enjoyed spending the winter months in Hallendale, Florida and residing at their beach house on Andrew Comstock Rd. in Warwick during the summer months. Rip, an avid golf player for over 60 years, was a member of the West Warwick Country Club. On July 29, 1996, while golfing at West Warwick Country Club, Rip hit a hole in one on the 3rd hole. He and his late wife were members of the Golden Spurs Dance Club and he was also a member of the Local 251 Retirement Brotherhood and a former member of the City Hall AC in Cranston. Al was the loving father of Al Raposa and his wife Bernadette, Marianne McMahon with whom he lived, and Susan A. Fusco and her husband Philip all of Cranston. He was the brother of Frank L. Raposa of Warren, RI and Englewood, FL and Gerald R. Raposa of Warwick, RI and St. Petersburg, FL and the late Joseph L. Raposa. Al is also survived by his loving grandchildren Justin Raposa and his wife Lisa, Lindsay and Austin Raposa, Michael and Matthew McMahon, and Alyssa and Michael Fusco all of Cranston. He was the great-grandfather of Mason, Gavin and Damon Raposa. His laughter, sense of humor and easy going nature will be greatly missed by many but especially by his children and grandchildren. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass to celebrate Al's life on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 10:00 am in St. Mary's Church, 1525 Cranston Street, Cranston, RI. Donations to the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd, Suite # 3004, Warwick, RI 02886 or to the Philip Hulitar Hospice In-Patient Center, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 in Al's memory would be deeply appreciated.
