Alfred Conte, Sr.

Alfred Conte, Sr., 90 of Cranston passed away peacefully on Sunday March 16, 2025, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Gloria (Martin) Conte for 60 years. Born in Cassino, Italy he was the son of the late Loreto and Maria (Vartesa) Conte.

Alfred courageously emigrated at the age of 11 to Rhode Island in 1945 to escape war torn Italy. As a late teen, he met the love of his life, Gloria and was soon married and ready to start a family. His work ethic and commitment to his family was a testament to the man he was. Al was always ready to lend a hand or provide support in the blink of an eye. As a team, Al and Gloria obtained their Real Estate Licenses and grew their business, Stella Realty.

Al loved all sports, primarily, golf, bowling and watching his sons play baseball and golf. He was an avid golfer and a member at Triggs Memorial Golf Course in Providence for many years. He also enjoyed playing cards with his brothers and friends after golf. He and Gloria were avid bowlers and participated in many tournaments throughout the state. He was a devoted and proud father, grandfather, and great grandfather, always ready to spend time with the grandchildren. He enjoyed walks with his grandchildren accompanied by his beloved Dobermans, Rusty1 and Rusty2.

In their later years, Al and Gloria retired to Florida where they enjoyed traveling to play golf and browsing flea markets in hopes of finding another set of golf clubs to add to the dozen they had already acquired. Al frequently customized and rebuilt golf clubs to improve his game.

He is survived by his 5 sons, Anthony Conte (Sandra), Alfred Conte, Jr., Lawrence Conte, Michael Conte (Christine), and Kenneth Conte (Lori). He was the grandfather of ten and great-grandchildren of six. He was the brother of Antonetta Gaspar., and was predeceased by his brothers Rocco Conti, Emilio Conti and Guido Conti.
