Alfred A. 'Fred' Cavallaro

92, entered in eternal life on Thursday, February 11, 2021.  He was the husband of the late Diana (Cianfarani) Cavallaro.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Giuseppe and Angelina (Tommassi) Cavallaro, Fred resided in East Greenwich for the past 10 years, previously residing in Providence, Saunderstown, East Providence and Cranston.

He was an alumnus of LaSalle Academy’s Class of 1947, where he played on the school’s championship football team. He was a proud alumnus of Providence College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1953.

Fred was the co-owner of Caserta Pizzeria in Providence and served for 38 years as the Executive Director of Diocesan Catholic Cemeteries for the Diocese of Providence until his retirement in 1999.  During his tenure at Catholic Cemeteries, Fred oversaw the expansion and refinement of cemetery operations and the design and construction of committal chapels and mausoleums throughout the diocesan cemetery system. He also served as a management trustee for the LIUNA National (Industrial) Pension Fund for over 20 years.

A sport enthusiast, Fred enjoyed participating in a variety of athletic activities throughout his life including football and tennis, and his most passionate pursuit, golf.  He loved spending time with his family skiing in New Hampshire, as well as his summer trips to the races at Saratoga. For many years, Fred was a member of the Metacomet and Alpine Country Clubs and the Aurora Civic Club. He also enjoyed playing a friendly game of gin rummy, when the opportunity presented itself.

Fred was a lover of fine foods, and he was happiest when sharing a meal with family and friends at his table, where he presided as the orchestra leader of a symphony of food and drink that was always sure to please.

He is survived by his loving children, Ronald A. Cavallaro and his wife Catherine of East Greenwich, Clio C. Silman and her husband Lawrence of Evanston, IL, Claudia C. Baldino and her husband Lawrence of Cranston, and Joseph A. Cavallaro and his wife Gina of Lincoln.  He was the devoted “Papa” to Talia Cavallaro, Bradford Cavallaro and Alexander Baldino and is also survived by his nieces and nephews.  Fred was the brother of the late Reverend Monsignor Galliano J. Cavallaro, Vincent Cavallaro, Armand Cavallaro, Eda Guercia, and Margaret Campellone.

The Mass of Christian Burial is by invitation of the family.  Due to COVID-19 calling hours are respectfully omitted and burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 245 Waterman St., Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906.
