Albert a. Zompa 86, of 181 Davis Dr., Pascoag, passed away Friday, October 24, 2008. He was the husband of the late Yolanda (Ionata) Zompa. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Orazio and Emilia (Grande) Zompa. Mr. Zompa was Deputy Clerk for the Chief Judge of the RI District Court for 14 years before retiring. He also worked for United Wire in Cranston as a Machinist Supervisor for over 30 years. He was a WW-II U.S. Army Veteran and served with company D 391 Infantry Regiment in the Pacific in Japan for a period of 23 months. As platoon sergeant he directed and supervised one platoon of men in the firing of heavy machine guns against enemy personnel vehicles, installations and lines of communication, and used all small arms and hand weapons. Albert was an avid golfer, bowler, and an exceptional gin player, and was active in politics and was elected to the 13th District Representative Democratic Committee. He was the devoted father of twin boys, Richard J. Zompa of Cumberland and Robert O. Zompa of Misquamicut Beach, RI and was the brother of the late Elena LaFazia. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Thursday at 9 a.m. in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Atwood Ave. Johnston, followed by inurnment in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
