Albert E. Norato

Albert E. Norato, age 91, formerly of Cranston, RI, most recently residing in Marco Island, Florida, entered into our Lord’s eternal home on November 19, 2023, while surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Providence, he was the son of Albert and Prudenza (Russo), Norato. He was blessed with an older brother Alfonso Norato, and four loving sisters Concetta Ronci, Evelyn DeRoiun, Verna Cardente, who all predeceased him, and his baby sister Ilene DiMaio, of Cranston.

In 1958, Albert married Carol Ann Burns, and together they created a family they cherished. They were the proud parents of Albert E. Norato, Jr., of East Moriches, NY, Joseph L. Norato, of Ft Myers, FL, Marianne Candito (Steven), of Marco Island, FL, and Stephen M. Norato, of (Sebring) Fl.

Those who knew and loved him called him “Sonny”.   He served his nation with honor during the Korean conflict, returning home to eventually own and operate, with his wife, the former Smiths Restaurant of Providence from 1969 -1993 until their retirement.   During their tenure, they served with pride to many customers who often became friends and with employees who considered themselves as family.

He was the proud grandfather to Albert, Kaytee, Steven, David, Stephen and Megan and most recently became a great grandfather to Marley Jo. He was a cherished, caring and loving Uncle to his many nieces and nephews.

Known as a kind and gentle man, Sonny was known as a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. He was a former member of the St. Rocco Holy Name Society and an usher at the noon mass.

In 1993 he moved with his wife to West Palm Beach, Florida where they enjoyed several decades together at Pine Ridge North IV.  Al was a fierce Rummikub player who refused to loose regardless of his competition. If you ever beat him, consider yourself lucky and blessed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday November 28, 2023 at 10 am in St. Rocco’s Church 927 Atwood Ave. Johnston. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Avow Hospice in Naples Florida.
