84, a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, succumbed to illness at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital on December 29, 2007. He was the beloved husband of Lena (Vecchiarelli) Martino for 60 years. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Carmino and Concetta (Masi) Martino. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Al served in the Rhode Island Army National Guard for over 30 years, retiring in1983 with the rank of Command Sergeant Major. He was a member of the American Legion and the Manton Seniors. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, David Martino, three daughters Barbara Montaquilla, Marie Vance and Dottie Long as well as his three sisters, Ann Celi, Margie Church and Yolanda Carrello. Poppy is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Anthony Martini, Louise Cutlip and Jenny Kafka. His funeral will be held on Thursday at 9 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME 1278 Park Ave. Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Rocco's Church Atwood Ave. Johnston at 10 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
