62 of Cranston passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 24, 2021 at Roger Williams Medical Center, Providence with his sister by his side, after a long battle with Parkinson Disease, COPD and contracting Covid-19 in November 2020.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Robert Cordeiro and Eleanor (Campanelli) Cordeiro. He was the beloved brother and best friend of Roberta DiDonna and her husband Ron with whom he lived. Uncle of Michael DiDonna and his wife Ariana of Cranston. He was the Dad of Joshua Andrade and Kailey Alana Cordeiro-Whittaker of Coventry, who he loved and adored with all his heart. Alan was also survived by his cousin and best friend, Micheal “Chico” Andreozzi, who was more like a brother, causing mischief together since day one. He also leaves behind an aunt, many cousins, and dear, lifelong friends.
Alan began his career as a meat cutter at the age of 18 at Chellel’s Market in Barrington. He also worked at various meat markets for many years to include Shaw’s Supermarket from which he retired. He was a member of the United Food and Commercial Worker’s International Union and was also employed by National Security for several years.
Alan was a member of the Barrington Boys Choir from 1968-1970. He hosted numerous boys from the Vienna Boys Choir each year.
Alan’s true passion in life was “The Ice”. He spent countless hours refereeing ice and inline hockey. Alan was a member of the National Ice Hockey Officials Association and Professional Referee of the USA Ice and Inline Hockey Association for 38 years. He was Head Referee for the Regular USA Hockey Inline Cup in Las Vegas, a member of the National Association of Sports Officials and a member of the RI Umpires Association.
A very special thank you to Melanie and the Staff at VNA Care New England for all the care and compassion you gave Alan over the past few years. You were truly “Alan’s Angels”. And to the Doctors and Staff at Roger Williams Medical Center for the care, compassion, and dignity you gave to Alan during this very difficult time in his journey “home”. You were the answer to his prayers.
And a very special thank you, to the Nardolillo Funeral Home and coworkers for your patience, love, friendship, support, and strength you’ve shown during this most difficult time. I couldn’t be more blessed or proud to be affiliated with such a wonderful group to call “family”.
