73 of Cranston passed away peacefully on Friday, December 1st at home surrounded by his loved ones. John was born in Pontecorvo, Italy a province of Frosione on August 17, 1944. He worked on his family farm before immigrating to America at the age of 18. John was most proud of being an American Citizen, and took pride in his hard work. He was a mechanic who specialized in heavy duty machinery for 51 years. John enjoyed watching sports, his favorite teams being Red Sox, Bruins, and Patriots. He loved to spend time outdoors and working in his yard. He’s most notable for his quick wit and his one line proverbs, also dubbed “Giuaisms.” He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Thomasina (Cerro) Abbondanza. John was the son of the late Luigi and Tommasina Abbondanza. He leaves behind a son, Giovanni Abbondanza and his wife Deanna Abbondanza of Cranston, a daughter Lisa Abbondanza and her husband Christopher DiCenzo of Cranston along with three grandchildren Alyssa, Gehrig, and Cameron. He also survived by sisters Benedetta and husband Gabriele D’Amata, Lucrezia and husband Giuseppe Abbondanza from Montreal, Canada. Along with brother Giuseppe Abbondanza and wife Rosa Abbondanza of Cranston and Vincenzo Abbondanza and wife Susan Abbondanza of Southwick MA as well as several nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed and always remembered. The funeral will be on Tuesday, December 5th at St. Mary’s Church in Cranston at 11 am.
